The Cognitive Foundations of Learning to Read: A Framework

The Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL) built a framework of the cognitive foundations of learning to read, one that would organize and synthesize the cognitive research on reading acquisition. This framework is the culmination of extensive research and experience in the field of reading and over 2 years of consultation with practicing teachers to create a framework meant to support teachers to understand and implement research-based practices to improve reading in their classrooms.
