Data for Education Programming in Asia and the Middle East (DEP-AME): A Brief Account of the USAID-Education-Relevant Data Situation in Burma

Introduction
A quick desk study was undertaken to obtain a general sense of what the data situation is in
Burma, in particular, as it pertains to USAID’s 3 education goals: improved reading skills for
100 million children in primary grades by 2015; improved ability of tertiary and workforce
development programs to produce a workforce with relevant skills to support country
development goals by 2015; and increased equitable access to education in crisis and conflict
environments for 15 million learners by 2015. A number of internet searches were conducted,
the most promising results of which are provided in Appendix 2.
