Guidance on Language of Education Policy and Practice in Senegal: An Overview

Education research and practice have shown the benefit of using a child’s home language as the medium of instruction in early grades. In countries with several national languages, such as Senegal, using a familiar language for instruction and providing opportunities for children to learn an additional language, such as French, in the formal education system requires careful planning.
