Comprehension Instruction Strategies in the Early Grades: A Focus on Informational Texts
This presentation was organized by the Global Reading Network (GRN) Non-fiction Special Interest Group. It describes comprehension strategies appropriate for use with non-fiction texts in the early grades and how to apply several key strategies. Parts of the presentation include:
- types of informational texts;
- prediction strategies and best practices for non-fiction texts;
- paraphrasing strategy - how to use it and how it is different from retell and summarizing; and
- graphic representations for comprehension.
The presentation was made at the March 2019 meeting of the GRN-affiliated Non-Fiction Special Interest Group in Washington, DC.
