Webinar Spotlights Research for Development of a Regional Early Grade Reading Network

This webinar, sponsored by Reading within Reach, will profile the projects of ten research fellows working with Red para la Lectoescritura Inicial de Centroamerica y el Caribe (RedLEI) in Latin American and Caribbean countries for the development of a regional literacy network. RedLEI is a recently funded initiative by USAID to launch a network of regional scholars, following the engagement of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala’s (UVG) leadership, to address research gaps relating to early grade reading in five countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

RedLEI focuses on analyzing the regional research landscape, and recommending and conducting needed literacy research in context. The ten project fellows will spotlight their individual research and planned research projects, the project director will provide information about how to use RedLEI as a model for developing research networks in any regional or national setting, and UVG will share information with participants about the important role of a regional university in the process of developing the network. The webinar will conclude with discussion from USAID staff about the value and process of developing regional and national research networks.
