Reading rules in February! Here are two opportunities to celebrate.
With Valentine’s Day on February 14, love is in the air. It’s a time to celebrate the love of books as well, as February is “I Love to Read Month.” Many schools celebrate with reading parties, author visits, book giveaways, and other activities designed to boost children’s interest in reading. For celebration ideas, read this Scholastic blog or this set of teacher-generated ideas.
February also brings the African American Read-In, as many schools and libraries across the United States shine a spotlight on African American authors, illustrators and books throughout the month. The celebration was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English as part of Black History Month. Learn more here.
