The Global Digital Library (GDL) launched today with an event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The GDL aims to promote early-grade literacy worldwide by making storybooks and other reading materials available in more than 100 languages by 2020. All GDL resources are free and available in digital and print-ready form. The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) is leading the development of the GDL, with support from All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development partners (USAID, World Vision, and the Australian government).
The GDL is a flagship activity of the Global Book Alliance, which is working to provide children everywhere with the books and learning materials they need to learn to read and read to learn. Learn more by visiting the GDL website.
Among the materials to be included on the website are texts from the Enabling Writers Workshop Program, which is funded by the ACR GCD partners, with technical support from Reading within Reach. For an overview of the Enabling Writers Workshop Program, click here.
