Global Reading Network Seeks Information for CIES

To help people organize their time at the upcoming Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) conference in March, the Global Reading Network once again will prepare a conference Passport listing sessions relating to early grade reading (EGR). If your organization has an early grade reading session at the conference, please let us know by February 10 so that we can include it in this year’s Passport. Contact

Reminder: Celebrate International Mother Language Day with the Global Reading Network

The Global Reading Network invites you to celebrate International Mother Language Day at an in-person and online event from 9 AM–3 PM EST on February 22 at University Research Co., LLC (URC).

Sessions will spotlight:

  • Developing Reading Materials in Mother and Familiar Languages: Considerations from Conception to Evaluation (Speakers: Julia Frazier, Emily Miksic and Annie Smiley, all from FHI 360; Diane Prouty, Creative Associates; Rachel Christina and Carrie Lewis, both from Education Development Center, Inc.)
  • Towards Equitable and Inclusive Quality Education: The Role of Language in Mathematics Literacy—Insights from sub-Saharan Africa (Speakers: Prof. Mamokgethi Phakeng (formerly Setati), University of Cape Town; and Prof. Mercy Kazima, University of Malawi)
