The Reading within Reach (REACH) project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by University Research Co., LLC (URC), seeks an Early Grade Reading and MTB-MLE Guidance Consultant. The position will last up to three months at 25-50%. REACH supports a community of practice, the Global Reading Network, which brings together a wide range of stakeholders working to improve early grade reading (EGR) in low-resource contexts.
The purpose of the consultancy is to support REACH in the development of a resource guide on language-related issues in early grade reading programs. The objective of the document will be to provide the diverse stakeholders implementing EGR programs with information on current research and program experiences related to language and reading instruction; considerations when identifying languages to be used for instruction; language-related considerations associated with instruction and materials; and policy-related issues related to language and EGR programs. The guidance document is expected to build upon and enhance existing materials.
The consultancy is expected to begin in or around late September/early October 2018. The level of effort will increase toward the beginning of the second month as the document is finalized and edited for publication. Required experience and qualifications include a master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in education, reading/literacy, or a language-related field, a minimum of five years of experience working on EGR programs in low-income country contexts, and others.
