According to estimates from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), countries throughout the world must recruit 68.8 million teachers over the next 14 years in order to provide every child worldwide with primary and secondary education. This is just one of the interesting statistics included in the new UIS eAtlas.
The eAtlas indicates that 24.4 million primary school teachers and 44.4 million secondary school teachers will be needed to fill new positions and jobs that open due to attrition. Furthermore, these teachers must be well-trained, well-supported and paid well enough to ensure quality education and learning. The five countries that will need the most primary teachers by 2030 are: India (3.0 million), China (2.0 million), Indonesia (1.9 million), Pakistan (626.9 thousand), and Ethiopia (507.8 thousand).
