Webinar Highlights Role of Mathematics in Supporting Reading

Register here for a Global Reading Network webinar on August 23, which continues this month's focus on the topic of how math supports reading, an increasingly important topic globally. Meera Tendolkar of the Pratham organization will guide attendees through challenges and opportunities found in connections between math and reading on local levels in India. Tendolkar leads Pratham's Mathematics content team and has contributed to several of the organization's flagship programs, such as Learning to Read and Read India Plus.

An earlier webinar on the link between math and reading, held on August 9, highlighted the latest research on the topic and case studies in the field. Participants heard from Linda Platas of San Francisco State University, who presented emerging research. Then Yasmin Sitabkhan from RTI International and Mary Sugrue from the Education Development Center, discussed the connections between math and reading learning and offered case studies of effective literacy programs in Kenya and Rwanda. Discussant Marcia Davidson of the American Institutes for Research summarized the presentations.
