This Somali Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) was developed in 2018 in close coordination with federal and state ministry of education partners in Somalia under USAID/Somalia's Alternative Basic Education for Pastoralist (ABE) project implemented by UNICEF/Somalia. This EGRA was applied to Somali students attending ABE schools in Gedo, Bay and Bakool regions of Jubaland and South West Federal Member States (FMSs). It is the first learning assessment conducted in the Gedo region and on ABE non-formal education students. It will yield an important snapshot of rural student learning outcomes in Somalia that has not been captured heretofore. Resources include: a teacher survey instrument (English and Somali), student survey instrument (English and Somali), and Somali EGRA Executive Summary summarizing recent EGRAs.
