This project is part of the All Children Reading Grand Challenge sponsored by USAID. The MobiLiteracy Uganda Project (MLIT) will use inexpensive, accessible mobile phones and augmented SMS (2-way text and audio) to deliver daily age-appropriate literacy activities and related parent education to rural Ugandan parents and their first-grade children. RTI serves as the research, assessment, and implementation partner while Urban Planet Media and Entertainment (UPM)— a global provider of mobile education—is the lead implementer. The implementation partner is the Kasissi Project, which is based in Kibale, Uganda and supports struggling rural schools in and around Kibale National Park, Uganda. During the two-year pilot period the goal is to reach over 180 parents and children.
