Kenya Primary Mathematics and Reading Program

RTI is using innovative, data-based teaching and learning methods in reading and math to improve student outcomes in urban areas of Kenya. This method aims to teach the fundamental reading skills that are necessary for improving oral reading fluency and comprehension and the mathematics skills critical for improved number sense, computational fluency, and problem solving. In this three-year program, classroom data is being used to improve student achievement in reading and math, assessment data is determining the effectiveness of the reading and math interventions (with particular attention to gender equity), and the combined results are informing policy dialogue about the investments needed to improve outcomes for beginning learners.
