Abstract (200 Character Limit) :

More than 50 people participated in the August 28 webinar, Approaches for Open Licensing Early Grade Reading Materials, organized by Reading within Reach (REACH) and Global Book Alliance (GBA). Following introductory comments by Linda Hiebert of the Global Book Alliance, Sofia Cozzolino of REACH and Save the Children provided an overview of open licensing and its benefits and described the various types of licenses available through Creative Commons. She also discussed a guidance document on open licensing that is currently being finalized by REACH.

Next, Dr. Amber Gove of RTI International discussed the importance and challenges of getting government buy-in to support open licensing. She noted some benefits to emphasize when speaking with government officials, and she gave successful examples from several countries. The webinar, which was moderated by Aristarick Lyimo of REACH, also included opportunities for participants to ask questions specific to their programs or situations.
